Application Procedure

Before you can take a ferret home from Planned Ferrethood (PFH), you must go through our standard application procedure. Be forewarned - this procedure is not a quick, simple process. We hope that any applicant interested in adoption will understand our thorough process. The ferrets in our care are our first responsibility and we take placing them very seriously.

Our application procedure consists of four steps:

  1. Review our Requirements for Placement. These requirements outline what we ask of any prospective owner who wants to take home one of our kits. Please do not apply until you have reviewed this information.
  2. Submit an Application: All interested parties must fill out a placement application. This will help us to learn some basic information about the applicant as well as provide contact information for the references provided. Click here to submit now
  3. Telephone/e-mail Interview: Once your application has been received and reviewed, we require a telephone/e-mail interview. At this stage of the approval process, we try to learn more about your knowledge and experience with ferrets, any prior ferret ownership history, and about your home and lifestyle so that we can determine if there may be a good match for you at the shelter.
  4. Ferretry Visit: Each applicant is encouraged to visit the ferretry to ensure that they are comfortable with PFH. Meeting the parents, other relatives, and the kits available will give prospective owners a good feel for what to expect. PFH does not ship under any circumstances so new owners will need to make at least one trip to the ferretry unless arrangements can be made to pick the kit(s) up at an event we are attending.
